On Thursday June 6, 2024, Commander Fred de Barros presented a $2500 check in memory of Ed Dempsey to Rye High School Senior Logan Jancksi at the Rye High School Senior Recognition Night. Logan’s mother posted her thanks to the Post on a recent Facebook page. See below for that and photos.

We are so honored and proud that Logan was awarded the American Legion Post 128 Scholarship in memory of Edward Dempsey on Senior Recognition night. Thank you so much to Fred DeBarros and the committee at the American Legion for considering Logan’s application. 
A side story:
I remember the day several years ago when Logan met and spoke with Mr. Dempsey at a Memorial Day ceremony on the town green. Logan was there volunteering as a young scout and was nervous to approach this distinguished older gentleman in uniform, but really wanted to meet him. Gathering his courage, he went over to introduce himself and they spoke for awhile. Logan talked about it for days, how special that moment was to him, and still counts it as one of the memorable highlights of his scouting career.
In August, Logan will head to SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University, to begin his study of Landscape Architecture.
