Veterans Breakfast at Rye Middle School (RMS)

What a morning at Rye Middle School!  At the invitation of Francesca Miller, the social studies teacher/ coordinator for RMS grades 6-8, eight veterans had breakfast with over 150 eighth grade students.

The program was very well organized.  The principal of RMS led us in the pledge of allegiance, and then we all sang the nation anthem.  Those activities were followed by patriotic music played by the RMS band.   Ms. Miller provided some introductory remarks and thanked everyone for their attendance.

Among the coffee and donuts served, each veteran was assigned a table in the high school cafeteria with 15-20 students.  Each veteran received a very nice gift with personalized cards to veterans, Rye customized magnets and tea.

The students were well prepared with questions about service, duty and what it’s like to be in each veteran’s respective branch of service.  The conversation was stimulating and enjoyable.
