Veterans Day 2019 was a full day honoring local veterans. The Post led two nice ceremonies. The first ceremony was held at Rye City Hall, and the second ceremony at Atria Rye Brook.
At Rye City Hall, Commander Fred de Barros led the ceremony. In addition to the keynote by Charlie Northshield, the former Rye High School teacher and USMC Vietnam veteran, we heard remarks by Mayor Cohn, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, NYS Assemblyman Otis and others. The music was beautiful and led by Robin Latimer, Rye Legion Auxiliary.
Later in the day we held a ceremony at Atria Rye Brook with 23 veterans in residence there. Many family members of veterans and other residents attended the ceremony. Following an invocation by Rabbi Rothman (23 year US Marine Corps veteran), we presented Certificates of Appreciation to all veterans in attendance. Many thanked us for the acknowledgment of their service. Music was provided by a Broadway-caliber duo who sang patriotic and traditional American songs for over an hour.
