Post Makes Donations to Vets and Rye Community

Rye Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros recently presented a check for $15,000 to Dawn Schall, Medical Director at Montrose Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, NY.  In her thank you letter, Dr. Schall writes to the Rye Post, “Thanks to you, VA Hudson Valley Health Care System Veterans will have additional tools to support their health and well-being.  Your donation will fund activities for Veterans in recovery, provide comfort to Veterans during their health journeys, and allow us to address the specific needs of our local Veterans population. “ In the accompanying photo, Commander Fred de Barros is presenting the check to the leaders at Montrose VA Hospital.

Rye Post 128 has also made local community donations to Rye Recreation of $2000 and $2500 for summer camp scholarships and recreation league basketball uniforms respectively.  In the photo below, Commander de Barros is presenting checks to Sally Rogol, Superintendent of Rye Recreation.  Ms. Rogol says, “Rye Recreation is thankful for the continuing support of Legion Post 128.  Contributions enhance our ability to offer camp and program financial assistance to members of the community as well as supplement the cost of reversible jerseys for more than 150 boys and girls in our basketball programs.”

Rye Post Commander de Barros says,” These donations to fellow veterans and the community align to the foundational pillars of the American Legion. We are a very fortunate Post to be able to support our community and fellow veterans alike.”

Nearly all these funds were generated through Rye Post 128 Legionnaire Terry McCartney’s Memorial Day golf fund raiser.   Terry says,” I organize a golf fundraiser each year on Memorial Day at Rye Golf Club.  This past Memorial Day we had over 70 players and 60 sponsors who participated in the tournament which generated $12,070.  We are proud the Post is using the funds for veterans and the Rye community.”
