Post Donates to Montrose VA and Rye Recreation

Fred de Barros, Commander of Rye American Legion Post 28 was honored to represent the Post on November 7, 2023 as he presented a check for $15,000 to support veterans in the Hudson Valley Montrose VA facility.  The money will be used for veterans’ activities, supplemental food and clothing, recreation, and many other life-enhancing programs.

In the attached photo Fred is seen presenting the check to Nicole Embry, Chief, Center for Development and Civic Engagement.

This VA check presentation follows our recent $2000 donation to Rye Recreation for uniforms for the upcoming basketball season.  In the attached photo, Commander de Barros is seen presenting the check to Erin Mantz, Superintendent of Rye Recreation.

Rye Post Commander de Barros says,” These donations to fellow veterans and the community align to the foundational pillars of the American Legion. We are a very fortunate Post to be able to support our community and fellow veterans alike.”

Nearly all these funds were generated through Rye Post 128 Legionnaire Terry McCartney’s Memorial Day golf fund raiser.   Terry says,” I organize a golf fundraiser each year on Memorial Day at Rye Golf Club.  This past Memorial Day we generated more than $20,000.  We are proud the Post is using the funds for veterans and the Rye community.”
