Flag Placement at Greenwood Union Cemetery

On a beautiful spring day yesterday, Commander Fred de Barros, Adjutant Tim Moynihan, Legionnaires Glen Carpinello, Marc Rappe, and Bill Maurer joined the Rye Scouts and 2026 Americanism Award recipient Laura Pelligrini to place more than 300 flags on veterans’ graves at Greenwood Union Cemetery.

Volunteers worked in teams of two or three, each assigned to a specific section of the cemetery. Many sections were divided into groups of about 50 graves. We removed the old flags and replaced them with new ones.

Last year, the Scouts created a strong system for placing flags on veterans’ graves, and their work made this year’s effort much more efficient.
